The Owl, the pen, the pencil and the paper

I have found a comfort in zentangling more so than any other form of creativity I ever pursued. I love to crochet and make sculptures etc but having tried this, it connects me to the artist that lives in my soul. Just me, pen, paper and pencil. The kind of foursome a girl can get use to. There really is more to it than just doodling. I'm connecting with the paper in a way I haven't done since I was a kid sitting in my window drawing outside. It's pretty groovy.

So I tried... scratch that, I created a beautiful owl zentangle. I can look at it and see Cina in it. Like my art hand print. I can look at any of my friends drawings/paintings and see their stroke in it. It's nice to be able to see mines again...oh snaps! I actually am drawing in a sketch book which normally I hate. Why? I think because they are a commitment like a diary and I lost one once, ever since that moment I could never commit to another. To be three productive pages in the art gods are singing.

Anyways here is the pictures of the owl:

Beginning Sketch

Soon as my sharpie hit the paper it was on

I started having to think of patterns, referring to the other two previous drawings as pattern references

Started coming along...what I like about doing this is that it forces you to let go. I had to move away from wanted a perfect  owl and just accept the form and shapes that were developing with thought and appreciation of the form manifesting. Some real zen shit for real!

I used a picture of a baby owl as a reference and their eyes are so round and huge, like orbs. It's one of my favorite aspects of the drawing.

I like the leaves to the left but not so much to the right. The shape of the left leaves and pattern are more appealing to me and i'll repeat it again at some point.  I was debating leaving the face all white but inside of myself I wanted more added so I just kept on doing it in the spirit of the practice till I felt I was done.

Filled and much better to me

Donezo!
